Getting Closer....

Today was a productive day at the Excessive HoppYness.  Most of the electrical was finished up and the chalk board is complete.  I also hung up some of my vintage beer signs (they work).  Enjoy the pics, and thanks to every one who has swung a hammer, painted, layed the floor, or wired (Bj, Lila, Jimmie, Kayleigh, and Frank).

Big thanks to support Franz Braatz for the 50lb co2 tank!!

If any one wants to donate any signs, or a tv, I will hang them!
Will let you know what is on tap!
take your coat off and have a pint!
It's getting exciting now.  We are getting closer to the finish line, but there is still so much to do.  So remember swing by have a pint and leave a donation!  We would love to be serving you full time!

Cheers! Happy New Year!

Brooklyn Brewing Co. - Black Chocolate Stout

This review will be my last of 2010.  Not to worry beer geeks, 2011 will bring some exciting changes here at Excessive HoppYness.  The brewery will be operational (I hope).  Currently everything is going as planned and we are on schedule.  Our 1/3bbl All Grain system is almost complete, which is very exciting.  While all that is laying in pieces inside the brewery, I wanted to brew!  So while brewing my very own "Sweet Chocolate Stout" I sampled Brooklyn Brewing Company's offering "Black Chocolate Stout."

Not my picture, my flash was not working last night.
So first off, I must apologize my camera flash did not work last night.  The pictures I've used today are not mine and pulled from Google Images.  So thanks for an excellent pic to the photographer!  Any way on to the review.

The stout pours smooth, and leaves about 1 inch of khaki colored head, that lasts for quite some time, the lacing remained for almost the entire glass.  The aroma is rich with malt, slightly sweet, some smooth chocolaty notes, along with a very slight raisin notes.

This stout has a thick, almost velvety mouth feel.  The first taste is rich with wonderful sweet, roasted malt flavor.  Notes of dark chocolate accompany some coffee like flavors in the middle.  On the back end the slight raisin notes, along with some alcohol flavor.  This was expected as this beer is 10% ABV!
Overall impression -  This is a wonderful Stout!  I will be picking this up again! A+

This can be purchased locally in Tallahassee FL at the New Leaf Market on Apalachee Parkway.

Cheers and I hope you had a great 2010!

Saint Bernardus Tripel

As we inch closer to the new year I wanted to revisit the style of Ale that got me into this business.  The Belgian Triple!  Although today I review an example of the style, from Brouwerij St. Bernardus Brewery in Watou, Belgium.

I slowly pour the 11.2 oz bottle into my 330ml goblet, I first notice the hazy gold, almost blond color or this ale.  Aroma is almost sour, but floral with spices.  Flavor of this Triple is very malty with a lot of yeast flavor.  The flavor is also slightly spicy, and fruity.  There is slight hop bitterness in the end.

Mouth feel is nice almost creamy, this ale is highly carbonated.  Almost the feel of champagne in your mouth.

Overall I would say this is a good example of a Belgian Triple. Although I am partial to the Trappist Triples.  Saint Bernardus, did a good job with this drinkable Triple!

I would rate this beer a solid B+ it's good but I have had better Triples!

Lagunitas - Hop Stoopid

This beer is not for the faint of heart.

This offering of IIPA from Sonoma California will be my inaugural review.

This ale pours almost crystal clear and is light and copper in color.  This IIPA pours with a bright white head about an 3/4" thick this dissipates quickly.  The aroma of this beer can be noticed long before it reaches your nose, the pungent aroma of hops fills the area around you.  When you move the glass closer to your nose you hit a burst or citrus, pine, apricot, and grapefruit.

As the inviting copper liquid passes your lips the flavor is balanced but extremely hoppy.  The malts in this ale stand out against the extreme hop bitterness causing it to balance well, you do not just taste hops!  The mouth feel is brilliant, highly carbonated, and smooth.  The after taste of hops are left in your mouth, but not over powering, this beer makes you crave another sip.

This beer is indeed intended for the "Hop Stoopid" in the world.  Hop heads will rejoice.

I highly recommend this brew if you are an IIPA fan or Hop Head.  This beer is not for the faint of heart tipping the scales are 102 IBU and 8.2% ABV.

The Brewery Is Under Construction!!!

I know it has been a tough year for most Americans.  On my home front it has been no different, but through hard work, and determination I am able to make this first post.

This all started about a year ago, when I brewed a Belgian Triple Ale that was wonderful. This hobby transformed into what could be considered a madness.   Fast forward to December 2010 and the brewery is under construction.  Plans are for it to be a small basic 12'x20' pub with oak Flooring, nice bar, 2-3 taps....We will specialize in all grain brewing with several different craft brews. There will be a 1/3 barrel system.  We are currently excepting donations also! (look at the top of the page)

The future home of EH Brewing!
Walls and Insulation going in.

Before the ceiling.

Ceiling IN!!!!
Buttoned up and ready for paint!
Me laying down the first coat!
Two coats later.
More to come.....Cheers!  Thanks to all that support us!
